From Concrete Jungle to Green Haven: The Vision for Zirakpur’s Green Belts

Executive officer Ashok Pathariya visited the Gazipur Urban Forest. The Municipal Council of Zirakpur is planning to develop several areas in the city into green belts by planting trees and plants. The council has already begun work on this initiative. Ashok Pathariya mentioned that work will soon commence on planting trees in a 5-acre area in the Gazipur region, with the council currently identifying suitable locations. Additionally, tree planting work will begin soon in approximately 5 acres near Gazipur village. Furthermore, a several-kilometer-long track will be created here to facilitate leisure walks for the public.

During this visit, President Sumit Bharadwaj and General Secretary Jagbir Mehlawere of the Green Planet Society were also present. Sumit Bharadwaj stated that over the past three years, their organization, in collaboration with CRPF, has established three urban forests, which are being consistently maintained. These forests are not only providing oxygen to the city residents but also serving as spaces for reconnecting with nature. Discussions were also held regarding the creation of a forest in a five-acre area, with full support pledged from the Green Planet Society. It is worth noting that last year, the society had submitted a written request to the local government to create a 100-acre green belt.
