The Green Planet Society, a prominent environmental organization, has submitted a proposal for the development of urban forests on the 100-acre Municipal Corporation (MC) land near Gazipur Sukhna Choe in Zirakpur. The proposal, aligned with the master plan's vision for a green buffer zone, was formally handed over to Director Shri Uma Shankar Gupta IAS at the Punjab Municipal Bhawan, Sector 34, Chandigarh.
Mr. Sumit Bhardwaz, President of the Green Planet Society, emphasized the significance of the project in enhancing the ecological balance of the region and providing a recreational space for the community. The society with CRPF 5 signal battalion has already undertaken successful initiatives in transforming approximately 4 acres of land in the Gazipur Sukhna Choe area into green spaces with walking tracks and recreational areas.
Assistant Commandant Parmod Joshi of CRPF 5 Signal Battalion joined the meeting to officially hand over the memorandum. Mr. Joshi expressed his commitment to environmental conservation and praised the Green Planet Society's efforts in sustainable development.
Furthermore, the Director has instructed Hrjot Kaur, Joint Director, to look into the matter and provide necessary guidance. The comprehensive case study, enclosed with the memorandum, highlights insights and lessons learned from the Green Planet Society's previous projects, which can contribute significantly to the success of the Gazipur Sukhna Choe project. The Green Planet Society eagerly awaits the government's approval and support for this initiative, believing that with the collaboration of the local government, this project will set a precedent for sustainable urban planning in the region.
